As bespoke discretionary investment managers, we believe it is important to ensure that clients have the right portfolio to match their attitude to risk. We place emphasis on the preservation of capital and apply our experience and expertise to achieve returns commensurate with each client’s risk tolerance.
We begin by taking a long term view on the economic themes influencing global financial markets and this forms the strategic core holdings in which we invest. We then add smaller, tactical investment opportunities as they arise. We keep our number of investments down to around 20 holdings which enables us to be flexible.
Our in-depth research generates ideas which are subject to real-time internal discussions (no waiting for an investment committee to meet and make a decision!) so if we spot an opportunity we can move quickly to take advantage. Similarly if we need to sell a holding we can do so swiftly. We also make full use of the research available to us because whilst we may not always agree with other analysts’ views, we need to know what they are thinking.
We have the independence of thought to ensure that we need never follow the herd, pursuing trends we don’t believe in, in the hope of tracking a pre-determined benchmark: at the end of the day the only benchmark that really matters is client satisfaction.
